   Welcome to Our Website!!!

Last Updated May 2008

Hi and welcome to our website that is a chronicle of our journey with ALS as well as a depository of my writing that encompass a wide variety of topics on ALS that I hope you will find helpful, inspirational or just humorous.  On the list on the left you will find I have Jeff and Lisa Lester just prior to his ALS diagnosis broken down these writings into easy categories that include my articles for the MDA'sQuest Magazine and their monthly ALS Newsmagazine, my columns for the St. Louis MDA Newsletters (The Raging Bear), my personal journey with ALS, my correspondence with other People with ALS (PALS)/Caregivers of ALS (CALS) on a wide variety of issues including trach ventilation, a section on my Christian faith and how it has grown and supported me during this journey and finally a section of my poetry and excerpts from the books/stories I am working on.  I hope you enjoy this website as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.

I want to dedicate this website to my incredible and beautiful wife, Lisa, without whom I would not have been able to accomplish the things I have with ALS and without her love and dedication I would not be around today!  She has been the primary reason why I can say I now have a fantastic, happy and fulfilling life since she has taught me what true love really is.  She is my one true love who I give my heart and even though my feeble words can not express my gratitude for the life she's given me when she pulled me out of the abyss of ALS by agreeing to become my wife and joining my sometimes hard and terrible journey with ALS, I am forever in her debt!  I also want to dedicate this website to our three beautiful daughters (Kelsey, Emily & Jordan) that Lisa so lovingly gave me since they have given me such joy and allowed me to feel what unconditional love truly is (something I thought I would be denied when I was diagnosed with ALS).  I love all of you unconditionally as well.  I really do have a GREAT life!!!!

The summer, 2007, I was accepted into the University of Michigan - Dearborn's School of Management graduate school as a dual degree student (Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Finance).  My goal is to become an online professor and to utilize the financial degree in some advisory capacity especially in conjunction with my knowledge of severe disability and it's impact on a family's finances.  As I write this I am in the middle of my first semester as a full-time student, it has been both challenging, exhilarating and a welcome turn in my life's journey.  If my returning to school does nothing else, I hope it inspires others with ALS to find their own new paths in life to contribute and stay active by living with ALS.

We're finally getting settled here in our new home in Lebanon, Missouri (about two hours away from the area we lived for 15 years) but Lebanon is Lisa's home town similar to where I grew up in Sikeston, Missouri plus it's where we got married going on 14 years. It's been an adjustment particularly in regards to resetting up services to support my care on a ventilator which has been interesting and humorous but much easier than we had thought. The other big news since my last posting , as if moving wasn't enough, is that I finished my first year at the University of Michigan-Dearborn with an 8.0/9.0 and just received three scholarship! from the university for next year. I also wrote an essay nominating Lisa for the CVS/Pharmacy "For all the ways you care" contest which she was named a finalist and received a welcome in New York. It corresponded to the weekend we were moving but it all worked out so she and our oldest daughter, Kelsey, had a fantastic trip to the Big Apple. Lisa even appeared on Good Morning America! Here are some links to our video on YouTube, Lisa's appearance on GMA and the CVS Contest website:
